I work in both a representational and an abstract style. Some of the representational pieces are inspired by iconic paintings of the Fauve period. The common thread that runs through all my work is a dedication to and fascination with the material, the one-of-a-kind sheets of fine art glass from which I cut my tiles. To me the challenge lies in harvesting from each sheet a mosaic vocabulary: the colors, textures, shapes, and surface patternings that allow me to construct a shimmering composition piece by piece, much as a painter works brushstroke by brushstroke. In essence, I am painting in glass, and the mosaic surfaces come alive in the shifting light.
